Join us this Labour Weekend for our next Kai Rotorua workshop — a hands-on Food Forest Planting Day, where we’ll be learning, growing, and connecting through kaupapa and the values that guide our mahi.
🍃 Together we’ll explore:
-
How the Food Forest embodies the kaupapa of Kai Rotorua — restoring connection to whenua, whānau and kai sovereignty
-
The principles behind Syntropic Agroforestry and permaculture, and how these shape our design
-
The plants and layers within our Food Forest, and how you can bring these ideas into your own backyard
Our Food Forest is a living example of how community, culture, and ecology come together — designed to nourish both people and the land. 🌿
We’ll be working together to install new 20-metre tree lines, in a relaxed and supportive environment. It’s not about hard labour — it’s about learning, sharing, and being part of something meaningful.
👩🌾 Meet our facilitators:
Cath Goodrick – From Rotorua, Cath runs her own business, Goodrick Landscaping, and is the Garden Manager at Kai Rotorua. Alongside Kev, she took part in a mentorship programme that took them all the way to Brazil to study Food Forest culture and design in different parts of the world.
Kev Hosking – From Taranaki, Kev specialises in Syntropic Agroforestry and has developed his own thriving food forest using the knowledge and insights gathered from his travels and hands-on experience.
🗓 When: Saturday 25th October
🕙 Time: 10am – 3pm
🍲 Shared kai provided — we’ll pause to enjoy lunch together and connect over good food and conversation.
Come along to see how the Food Forest is evolving, learn from Cath and Kev’s experiences, and discover how growing kai can reconnect us with the land — and each other.
